Vital Questions to Ask the Wedding Videographer

If you were to hire a wedding videographer, the first question you would ask before looking for one is how long he has been in the profession? And the number of weddings he or his colleagues have shot.

And then, one would proceed to find out their style of technique of making a wedding film. In this section, one would be interested in knowing whether our typical videographer is inclined towards making the wedding look like a story or a documentary type, a cinematic style or an abridged version of the event, or finally, something that breaks fresh ground. Do they go by a prescribed or set format?

Is it possible to have the videos on Zune or iPod/iPhone format? Can he stream the video on the internet for your friends and family to see?

The next set of questions for the videographer will be about the kind of technology he uses to shoot and edit your wedding video. Does your wedding videographer have with him the present-generation digital video camcorders? In the event of there being a problem or hitch of sorts at the event, will our wedding videographer have a plan for a standby option? Will he still deliver top class wedding videos with the aid of backup plans like spare batteries for instance? Is it possible to edit the video? This is a good benchmark for judging how up to date or antiquated your wedding videographer is.

Will the videographer with whom you made the agreement be the one actually attending the wedding and videotaping it? Or, if your wedding videographer is too busy or tries to be too big, delegate the wedding to a colleague or friend? These could be important questions that decide whether you want to go ahead with the chosen wedding videographer. Will having the substitute result in a larger bill?

Will the wedding videographer provide full day coverage or will he only be there till the reception?

Another important question relates to whether he has visited the venue of the wedding beforehand. If he hasn't, is it going to be difficult for him to locate the place? In other words, is he going to reach there on time? If he can't, will he make arrangements for his substitute to reach the place on time?

Lighting will be another important factor. Will the wedding videographer set the light in tune with the mood of the occasion? What kind of lighting will they use? If you're having a romantic evening wedding with ambient candlelight, and they need the lights on in order to get footage, there could be a problem.

Finally, the final question is, how much does it cost to hire the wedding videographer! Does he offer a service guarantee? Does the videographer deliver the final product on time? What format will it be in? How many copies of the final product will you get? And on what format will it be on? What will the DVD case look like?
