Wedding Photographers - How To Choose The Best One!

You wedding photographs will capture the emotions and mood of your wedding day for the rest of your life, so choosing the right photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make.

While selecting a photographer who lives locally might be the most convenient option, he might not be the best person for your wedding. So, you should always shop around.

Unless you already happen to know a talented, professional photographer, then you will have to rely on wedding magazines, the Yellow Pages, the Internet, or word of mouth.

The Internet is a good place to start because it allows you to compare the previous work and styles of many photographers and read the testimonials from other couples. It will also open your eyes to the fact that wedding photographs do not have to all look the same! They can be styled in many different ways to make your wedding look unique and different. The only limitation is your own imagination and the creativity of the photographer.

However, be aware that unless the photographer has whole wedding albums on his site, then the photos on display will tend to be his very best ones. So, you will have to investigate his work in more depth.

Therefore, when you have honed your down your list to a few prospective candidates, you should contact them and arrange face-to-face meetings.

The first thing you want to ascertain is whether you actually like them as a person. Having a good rapport with your photographer is very important because it will mean you will be more relaxed and confident about his abilities on the day.

So, if you do not like him, then try someone else. You are going to be spending many hours with this person on your wedding day, so you can afford to be picky about who you choose.

Also, assure yourself that the photographer has experience in photographing weddings by asking him how many weddings he has done. If he is a good wedding photographer, then he should have done lots of weddings, with testimonials to prove it.

Ask him to show you some full wedding albums of his work. This will give you a broader view of his style and creativity. It should also prove that he can produce consistently good photos for the whole of the wedding and not just one or two good ones.

Find out whether the photographer has worked at your wedding venue before. If he has not, then ask him if you could meet him at the venue to discuss good locations and any possible lighting problems.

The next thing to find out is how much he charges. Some photographers charge by the hour and others offer different wedding packages for a fixed rate. So, get him to explain what is included in each package, any extra costs such as travelling, and what his payment terms are.

Having a basic idea of his costs, you can then work out how long you want him to be there - or can afford to have him there. Would you like him just to cover the wedding ceremony and meal or would you like him to stay until the last dance?

You will also need to brief him about how many photographs you want taken and any special photographs that you would like. For example, you may want shots of particular friends or relatives that are not included in his usual packages. If so, how much extra will that cost?

Finally, remember to ask him what he charges for extra prints. Some will charge reasonable rates and others will charge an arm and leg for these. If extra prints are very expensive, then it may be much cheaper for your friends and family to order their photographs when you are placing your order.

Whoever you choose - have a lovely and photogenic wedding!

Finding the Right Wedding Photographer for Your Special Day

Planning your big day is a big deal and finding the right person to document your big day should also be a big deal. Getting married is an event that every bride and groom will cherish for the rest of his or her life. There is a lot of preparation and details that go into planning a wedding including finding the right photographer to capture your day. The memories you take with you from your wedding day can be looked at over and over again through the photographs. As a Vancouver wedding photographer from Purple Rose Photography I have comprised some helpful tips to follow while looking for a wedding photographer or even a portrait photographer.

First, make sure the photographer is willing to meet you at no charge. The consultation is a great way to see if you connect with your photographer. You want to ensure you feel relaxed with your photographer, as the last thing you want is to be uncomfortable having your pictures taken on your big day.

Second, ask your wedding photographer to see their portfolio, this will show you their level of experience and also the main style they use while photographing weddings. Every photographer has their own unique style and you want to make sure you love the photographs they take. You should find out if the wedding photographer is open to suggestion and is willing to take the photographs that you request.

Third, many Vancouver wedding photographers are switching to digital cameras; you should ask your wedding photographer if they will be shooting with film or digital. If film, will you get to keep the negatives? If digital will you get a CD or DVD with digital negatives? A large benefit to having a wedding photographer that will shoot digital is that not only can the photographer easily make touch ups to the photographs, they can also add a variety of effects.

Fourth, do not consider price to be a judgement of the photographer. Just because the photographer is expensive doesn’t necessarily mean that their work is superior to the rest or vice-versa; this is where viewing the photographers portfolio can determine the quality.

As you can see on my site Purple Rose Photography not only do I display some of my work I also have an FAQ, which can help answer some questions even before meeting me. Feel free to use these questions as well, when searching for a wedding photographer. I hope you can use these tips as a foundation to finding the right Vancouver wedding photographer. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to send me an email or call. Happy planning!
